I am making up my own adaptor for 400V 3-phase appliance testing which will have a B1363 (plug top) at one end an a red 16A BS60306 socket at the other end.

The adaptor is for earth continuity, insulation resistance and substitute leakage tests.

I have read that all the 3 live terminals on the BS60306 should be connected together so that when an appliance is connected to the adaptor and test equipment all there is a continuous circuit between neutral and live (when the appliance switch is on). I have read the Code of Practice and it seems to suggest this.

Just thought I would have a go at making one rather than buying one.

What advice do people have?

Hi Kev,
If you've already got the plugs then go for it. When I got mine I found that it cost very little extra to buy made up leads off ebay. The plugs\sockets are about £10-£15 each plus cable and 3pin plug.
You're right about joining the phases together in the plug.
If your tester doesn't perform a polarity check first then connect the live and neutral together.
This will prevent someone trying to power a 3 phase appliance via a 3 pin 240v single phase supply
You are aware that there are different types of 3 phase plugs?

There is a good thread here about the same subject and one post which advises the correct wiring for 3 phase adaptors. I can confirm the adaptors bought from Seaward are wired in exactly the same way.
