Autoset Formal Visual PASS Status on Download

A new optional feature in SimplyPats Version 7 which sets the individual Visual Test Status to a PASS for Socket, Plug, Fuse, Flex, Body and Switch where an overall Visual Pass has been recorded on the PAT Tester.

This feature maybe of interest to those people carrying out Electrical Safety Testing in line with the IET Code of Practice 4th Edition.

It may also be of interest to users of Downloading PAT Testers where;

a) The ability to record the individual Visual Test status for various Visual Checks is not available.
b) An overall Visual Status is only given in the data.

If you want to record and show that you have carried out Visual Checks relating to Socket, Plug, Fuse, Flex, Body and Switch, SimplyPats will now give you the option of automatically applying a status of PASS to each individual Visual Test based on the overall PASS status recorded by the PAT (See screen shot below). A PASS status will still be shown in the Overall Visual Test data field in SimplyPats.

To turn this feature on go to Settings > System Settings > Program Tab and Tick the Formal Visual option (shown below).

If an overall FAIL is recorded by on the PAT Test machine the individual Visual Test Status will not be applied as SimplyPats will not know which part of the Formal Visual check the appliance failed on, however this information could be recorded in a notes/comments field if available and carried across to SimplyPats. A FAIL status will still be shown in the Overall Visual Test data field in SimplyPats.

PAT Test machines such as the Seaward Apollo 600 or Megger PAT 400 series have dedicated data fields to record certain Visual Test information chosen by the manufacturer, if the tester is supported in SimplyPats and the status for individual Visual Tests are included in the data, we will certainly try to interpret it and record a PASS or a FAIL status for those tests based on the data supplied by the PAT Test Machine.

This is a good example of using software to mimic functionality or features found in one PAT Test Machine to another.
