Default Printer or Margin Errors when printing from SimplyPats

If you receive an error relating to Page Size or Margins when printing in SimplyPats, check that:

A) You have a Default Printer Set
B) The Default Printer is able and set to print to A4 paper size (i.e. You don’t have a Label Printer set as your Default printer)

Managing Default printers in Windows 10.

We have focused on Windows 10 in the following example as the “Let Windows manage my default printer” setting may cause some issues if you have more than one printer installed or use a label printer. if you are using another Operating System check that you have a printer installed and that the correct one is set to the Default Printer.

When “Let Windows manage my default printer” is turned On, Windows 10 will set the Default Printer as the last used printer.

For example, say you have an A4 laser printer which you use for printing out your PAT Reports using SimplyPats and you also have an Address Label Printer which prints onto rolls of adhesive labels.

If you print to the Address Label Printer using your label printing software and then run SimplyPats to print out some PAT Reports you may receive an error relating to Page Size or Margins due to SimplyPats trying to print a document the size of A4 to the Label Printer, which has now been set as the Default Printer as it was the last one used.

If no error is displayed, you may see the incorrect page size in the Print Preview area.

To get around this, you may want to think about turning Off the option to let Windows manage my default printer.

Click Start and choose Settings

The current Default Printer should be identifiable under the heading “Printers & Scanners” It will have the word Default under it.

Under the list of available printers you may see the option to Let Windows manage my default printer. If this option is supported under your operating system, try turning it Off and manually set the Default printer under the printers and Scanners list by clicking on the printer and choosing Set as Default.
