Hi guys,
Is there any way I can set up SP(V7) so it can be "hosted"?
What I am trying to overcome is the need for my technician to return to the office and work from there.
I could put a second copy onto a laptop for him, however importing descriptions and merging previous data etc would be a problem unless they could access the main computer where the main records are stored.
If the core program could be hosted somehow, that would make things a lot easier for me.
Thanks

Hi John,
That's a good question. Maybe need someone more knowledgeable than me to answer.
But the way I envisage using the software is by having the datafiles located on my OneDrive account. It would probably break if you tried to access the same file at the same time but as far as the data being up to date it (I hope) should work well enough. I think I did read a post from Richard about this somewhere.

Cheers

Dazza

Hi John

We do not have Hosted or Remote Version of SimplyPats at this time and it may be an issue for those users that need to physically connect the tester to the PC via Serial Port.

A lot of the newer testers are of course USB (as in non Serial emulation) or in some cases give the option of transfer via USB memory drives, which tester is you engineer using?

Regards Carl

Off subject slightly...

While we have written mobile apps in the past to download data from various testers (BetaPat and SigmaPat were included), these were mostly bespoke solutions and based on testers running UK Firmware.
SimplyPats does have an import option for the Metrel PADfx format data files created by the Metrel Android App and used with the DeltaPat MI3309.

Back on subject...

As mentioned, we do not have a hosted version of our main desktop software and I’m not sure how that would work where data from any of the testers needs to be downloaded via Serial Cable or USB Cable.

Carl,
I think I have worked out a solution.
Have two licenses, one on each computer but different locations.
Tech uploads data into SP and then saves the file to remote loc where imports can be done.

Thanks for your help

Yes, that a common solution.

SimplyPats Data files are generally very small with regards to File Size, sending them via email or uploading them to a cloud storage drive when out in the field is easily manageable, even using a mobile data connection.
