Portable Appliance Testing Reports (inc Microwave and RCD Reports)
SimplyPats is supplied with a large number of PAT reports as standard which should cover most user’s needs. The download section of the forum also offers free PAT Report downloads, which may offer a slightly different layout or include other information.
If you cannot find a suitable PAT Report for your needs from within the SimplyPats software itself or in the download section, please contact us for more information regarding our Custom PAT Report service.
The PAT Reports shown in the image above are referred to as V2 (Version 2) PAT Reports in SimplyPats, and were introduced in the SimplyPats Version 6.0.2 update. If you are upgrading from an older version of SimplyPats or prefer your PAT Reports less bold or easier on the ink, you will also find that the original PAT Reports are still available for use and are also included as standard.Printing or Exporting your PAT Reports using SimplyPats
Printing PAT Reports in SimplyPats is a very straight forward process, but you will need to make sure you have a PAT Data file loaded first. Once you have your data file loaded, you simply click on the Print Icon or choose “File > Print Results” from the File Menu, which will take you to the Print Preview screen.
Print Results maybe a slightly misleading term as the Print Preview screen also includes export options which will allow you to export your PAT Reports in popular digital formats, as well as giving you the option to create hard copies using your standard home or office printer.
The Print Preview screen also has a number of other advanced options which will be covered in more detail below, but for the moment we will look at printing an Appliance Register Report which will include all Appliances in the current data file regardless of their Site or Location.
First we need to open the PAT Data file that contains the information we want to print, click on File > Open File from the File Menu and open one of your PAT Data files. If you are using the Demonstration version of SimplyPats or you do not yet have any PAT Data files of your own, you can open the Example PAT file.
A Report in any form isn’t particularly useful if it doesn’t contain your own Company Details along with your Customer Company Details or the Details of the site tested, so if you haven’t added your Company Details yet, let’s do that now as these will be Global (used for all Reports) and will generally only need to be entered once.Entering your Company Details to be included on your PAT Reports
You can enter or edit your Company Details from the Settings > Your Settings screen as shown below.

The example above also shows a Company Logo and Digital Signature which will be covered in another guide; however if you have images of these feel free to have a go.
Enter your Company Details into the fields provided, you can fill in as much or as little information as you want. If you want to display certain information on the PAT Reports or change the logo size these options can be found on the Settings > Print Settings screen.Entering your Customer Details or Site Details to be included on your PAT Reports
Unlike your Company Details, Customer Details are not Global and need to be added or imported into each PAT Data file.
You should already have a PAT Data file loaded, so let’s add the customer details. On the File Menu click Customers > Customer Details to bring up the Customer Details screen (Shown Below)

Again, you can enter as much or as little information as required, when you are done entering your customer details click Ok.
Hint… If you have an existing SimplyPats PAT Data file that already contains the customer details, you can use the Import button to select which existing PAT Data file you want to import the customer details from. The Print Preview screen
If you don’t have the Print Preview screen open press the Print Icon or choose “File > Print Results” from the File Menu.

By default the “V2 Passes” PAT Report will be displayed so we first need to change this to “V2 Appliance Register” by using the Preview report Drop Down Menu to the left (See image below)

You should now see the V2 Appliance register in the Preview Report area to the right as shown below.
You can make the Print Preview screen bigger by dragging at the corners with your mouse while holding the left mouse button down or toggle between full screen view by clicking on the Minimise / Maximise icon in the top right of the window.

To print this PAT Report to a printer, click the Print button on the left.
If you want to print out any of the other available PAT Reports, select the Report from the Preview Report Drop Down menu and press Print.
The Print Preview screen can be closed at any time by clicking the Close button on the left.Exporting your PAT Reports in Digital Format
You or your customers may prefer digital versions of PAT Reports over hard copies, this is especially handy if the PAT Reports need to be emailed or archived using digital storage medium.
SimplyPats gives you a number of choices when it comes to exporting your PAT Reports in digital format, but Adobe PDF is by far the most popular option due to file size and acceptance. Exporting in PDF also gives the best results as far as formatting and layout is concerned when comparing it to the actual printed paper output.
Export in Word, Excel, HTML, Text and Tiff image formats are also available if needed but exports in these formats may not exactly mimic the print preview due to the complexity of some of the PAT Reports and/or the version or type of software used to open them.
To export the currently selected PAT report in PDF format click the PDF button in the Export To list. You will then be presented with a standard Windows Save Dialogue window which will prompt you to choose your Save Path (where you would like to save the PDF file) and will also give you the option to change the default file name before committing to Save.
We hope to cover the other options and advanced features found on the Print Preview screen in a future guild.
