This guide will go through the process of installing the FDTI USB to Serial Converters that we provide.
Do not plug in the USB to Serial Converter yet.
This guide refers to Windows XP.
Step 1
Please download the drivers by clicking on the following link. We suggest that you save the file to your Desktop as this guide will refer to that location.

The Zip file (FTDI_Drivers_09.zip) contains Drivers for Windows XP and Vista.
Step 2
Unzip the file using Windows or your preferred Zip Utility (Windows Instructions shown)
On your Desktop, find the file called FTDI_Drivers_09.zip
Right mouse click on the file and choose Extract All, you will now see the following dialogue box.

Click Next

Click Next to begin Un-Zipping the files

Un-tick the box that says Show Extracted Files and Click Finish.
You should now have a Folder on your Desktop called FTDI_Drivers_09
Step 3
Plug in your USB to Serial Converter, after a short while you should see the following screen. Select the option “No, not this time”

Click Next
Select the option “Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)”

Click Next
Tick the option “Include this location in the search”

Click Browse
We want to select the Folder on your Desktop that we Un-Zipped earlier, browse to the folder (Shown Below), left click on it once and choose OK.

You should now be back to the previous screen, but there will now be a location shown next to the Browse Button.

Click Next

Click Continue Anyway
The Driver Files should now start to install. When finished, you should see the following Screen.

Click Finish
The Process will now start again, installing another set of Drivers for the USB Serial Port.
Select the option “No, not this time”

Click Next
Select the option “Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)

Click Next
On the following screen, The Install New Hardware Wizard should have remembered your last choice, as shown in the Screen Shot below.
If not, please refer to SS007 above.

Click Continue Anyway
The Driver Files should now start to install. When finished, you should see the following Screen.

Click Finish
Your USB to Serial Converter should now be correctly installed.
If you want to check that it has been installed correctly or more importantly what COM Port it has been allocated, you can do this from the Device Manager. It will be listed under Ports (COM & LPT) as shown in the screen shot below.
