Hi Folks,

Currently download field results from an Alphapat test machine into Simply Pats V5 via an old DELL Laptop then transfer these results onto my main business laptop for processing. The operating system of the Dell laptop is Windows 2000 and works without any problems.

Currently thinking about changing the operating system to LINUX or one of its derivatives to improve the speed of the laptop. Anybody had any experiences in using LINUX instead of "Windows"?

Cheers

Glenfer

Hi Glenfer, thanks for your post, glad that SimplyPats is running ok on the Dell Laptop.

Regarding Linux and SimplyPats, I'm afraid I think this is a non starter. In addition to the code we have written in SimplyPats, our program uses several third party "widgets" e.g. for creating PDF's and it is unlikely that these will run under Linux.

I will ask some of the support team to do some research though and see what possibilities there are.

We have recently encountered several people wanting to run PAT Testing Software on a Apple Mac and whilst it is not possible to run it on the Mac OS itself, there are 3rd Party solutions that allow the running of both Windows and the Mac OS on the same Mac.

I will ask support to post here as soon as they have found out anything about Linux.

Regards, Richard.
