Hi,
I need help. These Fully electric ovens are fixed wire into an ON Off wall switch.
When I Remove the back plate of the oven and connect it to the Megger 420 using a jumper cable
for the Phase Neutral and earth respectively then connect the earth to a metal fixture I can conduct
A Class I run test.
It gives me 0.14 Ohm
then it fails the insulation test as it is only achieving 0.17M ohm,
is it because I have not disconnected the cable to the on off on the wall?
this room has 10 of these ovens....
regards

Hi Bonedry,

Have a look at Section 1, Clause 1.2.3 parts (a) and (b), Fixed or Stationary Equipment of the Standard AS/NZS 3760-2010.

Part (a) asks the question if it is not in a hostile environment then you don't have to do any testing at all. However, although not stated, it would be prudent to perform a visual.

Part (b) mentions ....if there is any possibility of the item being moved on occasions and or may be in a hostile environment then all that is required is a visual test and an earth test..... Insulation is not required as it will require total disconnection of the power supply to the unit being tested.

Refer also to Figure 4.5 from AS/NZS 3000. The sketch shows what part needs to be tested.

If the oven(s) fall into part (b) then you are performing all that is required.

I would suggest you obtain a copy of the referenced Section/Clause if not the whole Standard.

Hope this helps.

Glenn

Are you a Registered Electrical Worker? You should not removing covers to test portable electric appliances if you aren't, much less fixed ones
