Hi all

I was just looking for some advice please regarding a pat tester.

I am looking to start up self employed doing PAT testing (i have previous experience and got c&g 2377)

I'm not sure i can warrant buying an expensive pat tester as I am sure ill only start on smaller jobs (shops etc), so could anyone give me an idea of a decent priced pat tester to start me off.

I doubt ill get a downloading pat tester for around £600 (don't really want to pay much more for first one) So wondering if anyone could suggest one for me?

Thanks a lot
Adam

Hi AdamUk

I think you are wise trying to keep costs down when starting a self employed business.

I know a few guys who have started up with a Manual Pat tester and then moved on to a downloadable tester as their business picked up. One I know started with the Kewtech KT71 and then went on to a Megger PAT420 as the number of jobs he got warranted the extra expense.

Have you thought about buying a second hand downloading PAT tester?

Regards, Richard

To be honest, i haven't really thought about second hand stuff, i guess as long as it has a calibration cert and in working order it should be OK, i will have a look to be honest.

Thanks

You can pick up decent Seaward Europa Plus on ebay 2nd hand, and it's downloadable and capable of all tests. It's mains only, but if you want to go battery I recommend the Kewtech KT72. Not downloadable but has 500v/250v and substitute leakage with results, I have one and am very pleased with it. Again you can get them off ebay at good price, but always worth shopping around. Hope that helps/
