 Post subject: 3 way adapter

Hi All need advice do we need to PAT Test a 3 way adapter the square type that fits in to a socket not a trailing one and if we do how can it be tested is it class 1 or 2 any help thanks

Hi, I'm not a fan of these adaptor blocks as the weight of the other plugs/chargers can start to pull it out of the wall socket resulting in sparking. better off replacing it with a trailing socket.

To test, treat it as an extension lead (class 1 of course) and test all outlets.

Hi southwestlad,

As Rich says, alot of people don't recommend using these adaptor blocks, for precisely the reasons Rich gives.

However in order to test them you can use a previously checked IEC (C13 / aka Kettle Lead) lead to connect them to the PAT tester and then perform Class I tests.
